The lack of confidence was always a mystery- a feeling of inadequacy that persisted regardless of efforts. Decisions were frequently accompanied by self-doubt and apprehension, which led to further dependence on the advice of the covert narcissist. Religion was weaponized; shame and guilt were used to ensure complete control. The constant striving for unattainable perfection was a harsh reality. Ongoing emotional and verbal attacks undermined confidence, marriage, and parenting, eroding our boys' positive view of their dad.
Being spied on, tracked through Find My Friends, listened to during private conversations, and observed via our home security cameras became the norm. Despite the continual attacks on my husband behind his back, there was a commitment to our marriage and making it work. This stood in stark contrast to the desired results for the narcissist.
